ANGLOMANIA BY VIVIENNE WESTWOOD
Vivienne Westwood is best known as one of the founders of punk during the late 1970s. Her shop in London's Kings Road was at the centre of the punk movement. Westwood launched herself as a fashion designer in 1981 and began to look for influences for her first collection, based on the theme "pirates". It hit all of the 80's fashion points and got people flocking to her store. Choosing tartan partnered with her British designs was very unusual but made her designs very desirable and unique. You had to be someone who wanted to stand out in a crowd! Westwood revolutionized design and still has an effect on designs today.
The term ‘Anglomania' was coined in 18th century France to describe the style of all things English. England was perceived as a land of reason, freedom and tolerance and the world became fascinated by the most English of things- from tailoring to tea. What began as an intellectual phenomenon became and has remained a matter of style. The Vivienne Westwood Anglomania line is a collection which takes it's inspiration from Vivienne Westwood's archive. The line encompasses the whole of Vivienne Westwood's fashion career from the 1970's when her clothes were the badge of youth rebellion. Many of her garments from her past collections are prized and collected as classics so her Anglomania line allows men and women to wear her fashion statements on a daily basis. Anglomania is Westwood's latest collection. Everyone admires and adores Vivienne's newest range, including modern day style icons like Gwen Stefani. It was launched in 1997 and dubbed ‘clothes for heroes'. It has the spirit of rebellious youth that stems from the earlier collections. The funky and chic pieces are designed for everyday wear allowing people to add a touch of iconic Westwood chic to their wardrobes.
